What is the World Surf League?

The World Surf League, or WSL, is the official world championship of surfing for men and women. Throughout the year, male and female surfers compete on the various tours gaining points depending on how far into each competition they get. The highest level is the Championship Tour (CT) and includes big names from past and present like Gabriel Medina, Carissa Moore, John John Florence, Kelly Slater, italo Ferreira, Mick Fanning, Steph Gilmore, Lakey Peterson, Julian Wilson, Joel Parkinson. The CT tours around the world and holds events at some of the world's best surf breaks.

Men's Championship Tour Stops

The WSL men's tour includes stops in Coolangatta on the Gold Coast for the Quiksilver Pro followed by a trip further south to Bell's Beach for the Rip Curl Pro before heading over and chasing monsters in Western Australia's Margaret River for the Margaret River Pro.

Following on the tour gets tropical with the Oi Rio Pro in Brazil and the Fiji Pro. The now infamous J-Bay Open in Jeffreys Bay, South Africa is up next followed by a stop at Tahiti to face the Teahupo'o our Chopes monster wave. California is next with a stop in for the Hurley Pro in Trestles.

Europe is next with the Quiksilver Pro in France and the Rip Curl Pro in Portugal. The final even being the Billabong Pipe Masters on the northshore of Oahu in Hawaii at Pipeline.

Women's Championship Tour Stops

The WSL Women's Tour has a similar world-wide feel with stops in world-famous surf spots. The Roxy Pro also starts us off on the Gold Coast before the Rip Curl Bell's Beach Pro and the Margaret River Pro also in Western Australia.

The next stops on the tour are the Oi Rio Pro in Brazil and the Fiji Pro before the girls get their America on in Huntington Beach California for the Vans US Open of Surfing and the Swatch Women's Pro in Lower Trestles.

Following this is the European leg of the tour with the Cascais Women's Pro in Portugal and the Roxy Pro in France in Aquitaine. The final stop is the Target Maui Pro in Honolua Bay in Maui Hawaii.

Surfers on Tour

As mentioned before, there are plenty of big name surfers on Tour with multiple past winners still competing and other younger surfers taking out different stops along the tour.
