A Swallow tail offers more surface area from rail to rail, allowing for planing speed and lift, great for small waves. The inverted vee allows for bite and control when driving in and out of turns. Adding a wing to the tail area leading into a more narrow swallow gives you a similar planing speed and lift but allowing a tighter turning arch, great for performing in small waves.
