SMTH Shapes

SMTH Shapes is founded by World Championship Tour surfer Jordy Smith and his father Graham Smith. After spending years surfing and contributing to the development of models with some of the best shapers in the world, Jordy has gone back to his roots to collaborate with his father. Graham has decades of shaping experience that dates back to surfings heritage days. This deep rooted knowledge combined with Jordy's constant R&D makes them the perfect duo to create intelligent surfboard design. If you’ve ever seen “Stab in the Dark” with Jordy Smith you’ll know he’s a harsh critic and therefore all SMTH Shapes models must work well.

At SMTH shapes, they aim for quality and performance, utilising the latest shaping technologies to produce boards that not only work for the elite but the everyday surfer wanting to surf their best. With various shapes and styles from high performance boards like the Maytrix to all rounders like Humanoid and BigRig or retro styles like the Goldfish or Twin Trailer, you're going to find something to suit you.

Maytrix
SMTH Shapes

$910.00

The Maytrix by SMTH Shapes is Jordy's go-to weapon on tour. This performance shortboard surfboard is designed for progressive surfing with everyday conditions in mind. It’s sleek outline is slightly wider around the nose to ease with paddling combined with a subtle tail hip at the fins, pulling in the squash tail and giving you that reliable high performance feel. The result of Jordy’s meticulous R&D is a step up surfboard that can still feel lively and responsive when confronted with smaller gutless waves. For the average surfer this translates into a board that allows you to surf your best and progress your skills on any given day. If you’ve ever seen “Stab in the Dark” with Jordy Smith you’ll know he’s a harsh critic and therefore this board must work well.

The Maytrix comes as a thruster (3 fin), the standard for high performance surfing. Tested and refined by WCT Surfers Jordy Smith and Matt Mcgillivray. See more

Little Wing
SMTH Shapes

$910.00

The Little Wing by SMTH Shapes is a modernised Twin Fin Fish. It’s designed to be zippy and forgiving, maximising fun in weak waves. Compared to a regular shortboard it packs a lot more volume, making it a dream to paddle whilst still allowing you to ride it short. It features a wider outline that breaks into a winged swallow which gives you a tighter turning radius for a tail with extra area. Like most modern fish the Little Wing has a relaxed rocker, to control all the speed this generates SMTH Shapes have combined it with a deep single to double concave. When Jordy Smith rides a board he wants it to compliment his style of surfing that’s why the Little Wing and a lot of other SMTH surfboard models function on the perfect balance of control and looseness. $1,010.00

The Goldfish Mid-Length by SMTH Shapes is a stretched out version of the Goldfish. They have basically made it longer and narrowed the nose and tail. This allows the board to still turn and fit into steeper parts of the wave. It is perfect for a surfer who wants a longer board that still offers performance. The rails have been softened and they introduced a single to double Vee bottom reducing drag and increasing manouverability. This achieves a resistance free flow that can translate into stylish smooth surfing. Despite their retro look, deep swallow tails can provide performance functionality by gripping to the wave and holding edge through tight turns. The wide point is above the centre of the board which creates loads of stability and forward momentum. The Goldfish Mid-Length is ideal for points and when the waves are less than ideal. This board can be surfed as a Twin, Thruster or Quad.

Volume
SMTH Shapes

$910.00

The Volume by SMTH Shapes is a high performance shortboard that was developed to go a step further and touch better in weak conditions than Jordy’s go to competition model the Maytrix. After qualifying for the Olympics in Japan, Jordy flew over there and started refining this design. Besides increasing the boards overall volume as the name suggests the outline slightly shifts wider particularly towards the nose. The deck also utilises an aesthetically pleasing roll that hides thickness along the stringer line and tapers off towards the rails. A relaxed rocker offers quicker glide and speed generation whilst a deeper concave down the centre provides lift and allows you to maneuver effortlessly. The Volume is perfect for days when you want to perform your best in the average waves you’re handed. See more

Cosmic Fish
SMTH Shapes

$910.00

The Cosmic Fish by SMTH Shapes is a tribute to the classic Southern California Fish template. It has been a popular design for decades due to the range of conditions you can surf it in. Modified with Jordy Smith’s influence to have a wider nose and a straighter outline with a more narrow tail. These changes have modernized the board a bit and it offers great paddle power but is still maneuverable. The Cosmic Fish has a slightly flattened bottom rocker with a tailflip, therefore, this board will still be stable in punchy conditions. In short, this is a fun and versatile Twin Fin. See more

Goldfish
SMTH Shapes
$910.00

The Goldfish by SMTH Shapes is a traditional fish outline adapted from one of Graham Smith's original 80’s templates. Modified with Jordy Smith’s influence to be more forgiving and perform by modern standards. The twin fin surfboard's tweaks include softening the rails and introducing a deep double spiral concave to channel the water through the fins. This achieves a resistance free flow that can translate into some stylish surfing. Despite their retro look, deep swallow tails can provide performance functionality by gripping to the wave and holding edge through tight turns. The Goldfish will complement any quiver as an easy paddling board with addictive speed. The Goldfish comes standard as a twin but can be pushed a little harder as a quad fin. See more

Humanoid
SMTH Shapes

$910.00

The Humanoid by SMTH Shapes is designed as a versatile all round surfboard to help you get as many waves as possible without sacrificing performance. Originally called “The Wave Snatcher’ for good reason, it features a fuller outline with more width around the nose to help with paddling and getting into waves earlier. Combined with a pulled in rounded-pin tail, this hybrid surfboard is a great one board quiver option.

The tail offers stability in the barrel and will help you lean into some heavy footed carves, while maintaining control when surfing tight in the pocket. The Humanoid is well balanced with volume in all the right places. The board has a relaxed entry rocker into a flat mid section for natural down the line speed without compromising top to bottom surfing. The bottom setup has a soft single concave that runs into a deeper double out through the fins.

The Humanoid comes standard as a thruster (3 fin) but works well in a quad for serious tube shooting order as a 5 fin if you want the flexibility of both options. The all-rounded nature of this design makes it an excellent choice for surf trips. Tested by Jordy Smith and reviewed positively by Matt Wilco for Surfing Life Sled Review. (see below).

BigRig
SMTH Shapes

$910.00

The BigRig by SMTH Shapes is for the bucket throwers. Designed by Jordy Smith - the largest man on tour, to cater for his fellow heavy weight surfers. This big guy surfboard features more volume upfront combined with a fuller outline and flatter rocker the BigRig paddles like a dream and picks up speed without effort. Its deeper bottom contours pass water more efficiently and create lift for a more lively feel. The small wave surfboard's overall thickness is balanced with pulled down rails for better engagement when performing power carves or hacks.

The BigRig comes as a thruster (3 fin), the standard for high performance surfing. A game changer if you’re feeling a bit tired and slower than you used to on your normal shortboard. See more

Twin Trailer
SMTH Shapes

$910.00

The Twin Trailer by SMTH Shapes is a retro surfboard with a timeless design that takes inspiration from the 80’s. Unlike the original 80s shapes the Twin Trailer takes modern performance attributes with Graham Smith’s experience when shaping “MR’s” in California to develop a modern performance twin, with retro aesthetics. The end result is a high performance fish that lights up in everyday conditions. The small wave surfboard's modifications include a relaxed entry rocker and a wider nose for extra volume under the chest. The result is a board that paddles easy, maintains speed through sections and can be surfed tight in the pocket.

As the name suggests the The Twin Trailer is the perfect design for a Twin+1 (smaller trailing fin) set up. This fin layout gives you all the drive and speed of a twin fin but with an extra touch of control and pivot from the smaller stabiliser. See more

SMTH Shapes

Jordy & Graham Smith

What we all might not know about Jordy Smith is that he basically grew up in his fathers shaping bay. As grom Jordy showed a keen interest in surfboard design, playing a roll in the shaping process of his boards since he was 7. This kind of background in board design has allowed him to pin point the attributes of a surfboard he wants to tweak with a deeper understanding of the outcome.

For his size Jordy makes the impossible seem possible, always putting in the work to match the progressive manoeuvres of the lighter guys. One of the key components of this effort is making sure he's on the best equipment possible. After spending years helping other brands refine their designs, Jordys efforts are now entirely focussed on his collaboration in SMTH.
