Step Off Performer

JS Industries

From
$1,199.00

The Step Off Performer by JS Industries has been developed to utilise for step offs, whether there's nobody else nearby and you just want to increase your wave count or it's a wave that needs a ski for access. In response to increasing demand from our team riders, ambassadors, and friends over the past two years, we are now offering it for bespoke orders. It has a medium entry and exit curve suited to fit in excellent, hollow waves, and its rocker is quite similar to the Forget Me Not 2.

The similarities, however, stop there. The Step Off's design is straight and thin for great downhill speed and added grip. This is intended to make it simpler for you to fit into the barrel while protecting you from other hazards like chandeliers and shockwaves. Since the Step Off is made to maximise control while maximising wave power rather than generating more lift, the concave is a shallow single throughout.

6x6x6 glassing is advised (two layers of 6 ounce on the deck and one layer on the bottom). Naturally, this offers you a lot of strength and endurance, but it also gives you the extra momentum you need in strong, rough, or windy circumstances. Additionally, they advise using a smaller fin than usual. For example, if you typically ride a large template, use a medium for your Step Off. This is because the outline provides all the grip, and smaller fins work best to maximise speed while preserving some manoeuvrability. During research and development, fin setups have ranged from quad only for tubes to thruster if you're also likely to turn.

Ride the Step Off 1/4” to 5/16” thinner and 1” to 1 3/8” narrower than your normal shortboard.

Step Off

Wave type

Step Off Performer is best suited for waves between 6 and 12 foot plus. From long walls and fun sized tubes, to the biggest and heaviest days of the year.

Step Off

Features

Rocker

Step Off Performer has a medium rocker that is perfectly suited to hollow, powerful waves. The entry point is high enough to prevent any catch on the front edge yet quickly balances out to make sure speed is maintained. The exit rocker mixes enough curve to allow tight pocket turns and down the line speed.

Fin setup

We recommend a 5 fin set up to alternate between quad and thruster.

Glassing specs

We recommend 6x6x6 glassing which gives the right momentum in a variety of conditions. Please select your intended glassing in the custom order tab.

Rail type

The Step Off Performer has low rails. Allowing you to turn at high speeds without unwanted resistance.

Step Off

Concave

A shallow single throughout, minimising any unnecessary lift and maximising control.

Outline Comparison

As seen below, we've compared the Step Off outline with the Forget Me Not 2. A more pulled in tail gives the Step Off Performer greater hold when you need it most.
