Dave Howell the man behind Misfit Shapes started out shaping with Col Ladhams, fine-tuning and finishing a range of leading surfboard brands, including Lost and Webber Surfboards. After doing his time and learning the ropes, Dave followed his passion and set out to bring something new to the surfboard industry. Soon after, Misfit Surfboards was born on the northern beaches of Sydney following his mission to go against the grain, offering fine tuned performance crafts for the individual. Check out surfers like Otis Carey shredding on his signature model the Dingo Bandido to feel the inner froth being created by the team at Misfit Shapes. See their innovative performance shapes like the new barrel friendly Misfit Shadow Puppet and the progressive Misfit Mermaid Killer. With a selection of popular all round performance models like the Misfit Thruster Space Dolphin and the Magic Mule there is a large selection of performance shapes to meet all your surfing needs. The popular small wave machine the Misfit Sinister Kid is perfect for small or weak waves and the Misfit Fang designed as a hybrid concept to perform in 4 to 8 ft waves for deep barrel riding and extra response in the pocket.

Apart from their leading shapes, Misfit offers a fine range of eclectic artwork, more suited to hanging on your wall, their one of a kind artwork go hand in hand with the Misfit brand. Chris Chong and the team at the Sugarmill Fine Surf Emporium constantly bring out fresh new sprays to match their ever evolving craft, a perfect match for the brand and a crew of individuals offering something you can’t find elsewhere. If you’re a surfer looking to step outside the box and get on a fine tuned board with a story, check out the fine craft below by Misfit Surfboards.

Hey guys. I'm 6'2, 90kgs and still a beginner.. Just wondering what size you would recommend for the sinister kid. Also would you recommend the sinister kid or dope machine?

Hi Carl,
Sorry about the late reply, your post had somehow slipped through.

Both of these boards are similar in shape and will have you flying down the line and making sections you never thought possible.

The vanguard by Firewire is a really fast board with channels in the nose and tail to help direct water flow to generate speed and lift when planing across the wave.

The Mermaid Killer is also super quick down the line but does not have channels in the nose. But it does have a channel through the centre of the tail to direct water flow through the centre of the board creating speed. The mermaid killer has a little more entry rocker in the nose to keep from nose diving and a little more surface area to help paddle into waves easier.

The tail on both of these boards have been designed to create hold in the face of the wave.

Both boards are heavily focussed on generating speed and the outline allows you to ride these boards a lot shorter than a standard shortboard with all the extra volume in the nose and tail. Riding these boards a lot shorter than a standard board means they will be easier to manoeuvre.

Hi Razle, at the moment we do not currently offer international shipping, however in the past customers have arranged their own international shipping. 2 companies that we recommend are DHL and UPS. You can get a quote from their website. Alternatively we could have the board shipped to a friend in Australia and they could bring the board over to Singapore with them if they were heading over there in the near future.

The sinister kid is sick, flys like a rocket and sticks to your feet. Wherever you want it to go it goes. Paddles onto waves like a dream. Get way more waves then most. Perfect for points beach breaks fat waves or bowley sections its my go to board if I just want to catch heaps of waves and have fun.

Seems to go well in nearly all conditions over 2 foot. It took a couple sessions to get used to and now love it. You can push really hard and still holds tight. Plenty of drive, and paddles really good for a short board. Loves being put on rail. I ordered a 6'1 and I'm almost 6'4 and it's perfect size for me. Glass job (4x4x4) is holding up real good even with 95 kg's bouncing around on it. Great board even for the waves in vic.
