The FRK by Firewire Surfboards was designed by
Dan Mann (Mannkine) back in 2015 when
Kelly Slater asked him to shape a board for the first time. Mann sent 2 squash tails and a rounded pin over to Slater and didn't hear back. What Mann didn't know is that Kelly surfed the sqaush tails and wasn't blown away. Fast-forward 2 years later and Mann get's hit with messages from Kelly and he's frothing. After 2 years of sitting unridden Kelly surfed Lowers, CA on the rounded pin and things instantly clicked. Kelly's sizing guide is "surf the size that is almost too small for you". The video below of Mann and Slater explaining this story is well worth the watch.
Mann created the
FRK to be so free flowing that you could forget it's there. When you watch the videos below of Kelly ripping it's almost like the board is an extension of his body. If you are looking for a versatile performance shortboard that you can really maneuver fast and knife turns then this board could click with you too.
